Interview Q/A
Q1. Hi Adelaide! Could you please tell us something about yourself including a fact about you that is hidden from public knowledge?
Hey! This was a sneak attack question because I’m kind of an open book. Something most people probably don’t know about me is that I grew up in a teeny town in Vermont and hated every single second of it. I was so anxious to get out of the state and escape country/small town life that I left for college as soon as I could. I’ve bounced around a bit since then and had a variety of jobs. Before I had my kids I was working as a therapist and life coach at a therapeutic riding facility and using horses in my treatment strategy. I guess you can take the girl out of the country…
Q2. What made you get into the profession of writing?
I’ve always wanted to write. It was…the only thing that made sense to me for a long time. It started out with poetry when I was little, and then migrated to short stories and fanfiction, before I eventually started writing snippets of things that I knew could be a book if I put in the work. It took me longer than it should have to start writing as a profession, because I listened to all the voices that said, “don’t quit your day job.” So, I did what was expected of me and went to college, got a degree, got a rewarding job that stressed me out daily. Then after my eldest was born, I never went back to work. I started writing more and more, and then I finally took the plunge and published.
Q3. Have you always wanted to be a writer or did you have some other aspirations ?
Writing was always my ultimate dream job. I had other aspirations that I thought of as my more practical career options, but even in that I tried to choose something that I thought would also be useful when I inevitably attempted to write professionally.
Q4. I absolutely Love your dark romance books!! What was the first book that you wrote and how did it feel when it got published?
The first book I ever wrote wasn’t the first book I published, but it was Until Forever Ends. It’s been entirely rewritten since that original version, but the overall concept is the same as it was fifteen years ago with the same characters. Believe it or not, the original was even darker. Each book that I’ve published is this weird mix of elation and terror, but the Beauty in Lies series is very close to my heart. Sharing it with my readers has felt a bit like baring my soul, and with that has come some intense highs and lows.
Q5. Out of all your books , what is the darkest book that you have ever written?
Until Forever Ends without a doubt is the darkest book I’ve written so far.
Q6. I have read all your books and Rafael is my absolute favorite hero despite his crazy personality . What gave you the idea to write his series?
The initial spark of inspiration for Rafael’s series came on my trip to Italy and Greece. I was sixteen, and I’d just spent a year busting my booty to work and save up enough money to go on the trip with a club in school. When we were on a day trip to the island of Capri, I got separated from the group. I didn’t speak Italian and on the boat ride around the island and into the Blue Grotto, our tour guide had told us all about how the mafia owned the island. A handsome man, maybe in his late 20s, realized I was lost. I knew my group was going to the Gardens of Augustus so he gave me a ride on his moped. I was terrified the entire way and wondered if I’d made a mistake. His name was Raffaelo, and despite some flirtations (he was Italian after all), he brought me to my group safely. But that seed of the mafia and all that could have happened was planted in my head.
Q7. Do you ever put yourself or the people you know into your books?
Not intentionally. I think that I can see pieces of myself in each of my heroines, but my goal is never for the character to be me if that makes sense.
Q8. Is there any particular time at which you write , or do you write whenever the inspiration strikes?
I love to write mid-morning, but most of my writing happens in the evening and then at night when my kids are sleeping. I’m a full-time homeschool mom at the moment.
Q9. What do you have in work right now and what book can we expect from you next?
Right now, I’m writing the fourth book in my Beauty in Lies series. After that I have Dreams of the Vengeful releasing as part of the Tangled Sheets anthology in July, and then Scarred Regrets in my Bellandi series.
Q10. Do you ever Read for pleasure? Who is your favourite author?
I don’t get to read as much as I would like, but I try to take a day between books I’m writing to binge read a book. I really love Anna Zaires, Mia Knight, Sarah J. Maas, and Jennifer L. Armentrout. Dark romance and fantasy romance are my favorites.
Q11. Now before we wrap up , let’s do a quick random question round :
o Worst gift you have ever received? A clown stuffed animal. *shudders*
o What was the first nickname you had? Tigerlily
o Vegetarian or Not? Not
o Your most cherished possession? Probably my grandmother’s collection of seashells. I’d never been to the beach before she died, and she used to sit me on her lap and tell me the story for each and every one she’d found on her trips to the ocean.
